A buyer wants an alternative to an imported grade. What information is needed before recommending a Chinese material?
Use the incumbent grade as a reference, not as the complete requirement. The correct target is the application’s performance window, processing window, compliance needs and acceptable commercial trade-offs.
Information that changes the recommendation
- Incumbent grade, supplier and any approved-color or certification restrictions
- Application, part geometry, wall thickness and annual demand
- Critical properties ranked as mandatory, preferred and negotiable
- Known molding problems and the current processing window
- Required declarations, testing methods and customer approval process
First compare chemistry, reinforcement, flame system and the critical data-sheet values. Eliminate candidates with obvious structural mismatches.
Next run a small sample trial and record processing behavior, appearance and dimensional results. Do not rely on pellet testing alone.
Finally, validate the finished part against the buyer’s approval plan. Commercial supply, color consistency, packaging and change-control expectations should be reviewed with the same discipline as technical properties.
