CHINA IMPACT MODIFIER MANUFACTURER

Impact Modifiers for Engineering Plastics from China

RC Polymer Solutions manufactures engineering plastic impact modifiers, MBS impact modifiers, plastic tougheners and related toughening agents for supported resin applications. Grade selection begins with the resin, failure mode, operating temperature, process and validation target.

What is an impact modifier?

An impact modifier is a polymer additive used to improve a plastic's resistance to impact, crack initiation or brittle fracture. The effective chemistry and addition level depend on the base resin, formulation, process, temperature and finished-part requirement.

Buyers may also use the terms plastic toughener, polymer toughener, toughening agent or impact-strength modifier. These terms overlap commercially, but they do not make different chemistries or grades automatically equivalent.

Impact-modifier chemistry and selection context

MBS core-shell modifiers

Used in supported engineering-plastic and PVC evaluation contexts. Shell design, morphology, resin compatibility and application evidence are grade-specific.

Silicone-rubber-core modifiers

RC-756 is positioned for PC and PC/ABS evaluation where low-temperature impact and hydrolysis-resistance considerations are relevant.

ABS high-rubber powder

RC-178H, RC-198 and RC-158 are published for controlled ABS-compounding and related documented evaluation contexts.

ASA-related modification

RC-3690 and RC-200A have separate evidence scopes for ASA-related and weather-resistant alloy evaluation.

Acrylic impact modifiers

Selected acrylic grades are published for supported outdoor-PVC contexts. Acrylic impact modifier and acrylic processing aid are different functions and should not be confused.

Transparent impact modification

RC-768 has formulation-specific evidence for transparent PMMA/SAN and transparent ABS-type systems, including haze and transmittance results.

PA and PBT toughening inquiries can be reviewed, but no product is recommended on this page without current application evidence for the buyer's exact resin and requirement.

Dosage, testing and performance tradeoffs

Addition level is not universal. A controlled trial should compare a justified dosage ladder against the same resin and full formulation. Impact improvement should be reviewed alongside melt flow, tensile and flexural properties, heat response, appearance, color, process stability and finished-part results. Published application values apply only to their stated formulations and test conditions.

Follow the engineering-plastics impact-modifier selection guide, then review available TDS and application evidence for the supported grade before planning a customer-side trial.

Frequently asked questions

What is an impact modifier?

An impact modifier is a polymer additive used to improve a plastic's resistance to impact, crack initiation or brittle fracture. The effective chemistry and addition level depend on the base resin, formulation, process, temperature and finished-part requirement.

Is a toughener the same as an impact modifier?

The terms often overlap in commercial searches. Toughener emphasizes the intended toughness improvement, while impact modifier describes the additive function. The exact chemistry, resin compatibility and tradeoffs still need to be defined.

What is an MBS impact modifier?

MBS is a core-shell impact-modifier family based on methyl methacrylate, butadiene and styrene. Commercial grades differ in morphology, shell design, target resin and evidence, so the family name alone does not prove compatibility or interchangeability.

How should an impact modifier be tested?

Freeze the control resin, complete formulation, drying, processing, specimen geometry and conditioning. Compare a justified dosage ladder, then measure impact together with flow, heat, stiffness, appearance and finished-part performance before commercial approval.
