How to Evaluate an Impact Modifier for POM

How to evaluate RC-736 using the controlled POM 90/10 dataset and disclose impact/stiffness tradeoffs.

Short Answer

RC-736 is the primary RC grade for POM evaluation. In the controlled POM / RC-736 = 90 / 10 dataset, notched Izod increased from 64 to 91 J/m and elongation from 99.2% to 177.4%, while tensile and flexural properties changed.

Controlled tradeoff data

Tensile strength changed from 56.5 to 48.2 MPa; flexural strength from 76.8 to 65.2 MPa; flexural modulus from 2218 to 1925; MFR from 6.62 to 5.41.

Typical evaluation range from source data: 5–15%. This is not a guaranteed optimum dosage and must be validated in the customer’s formulation.

Evaluation decision

Select the addition level according to the required impact, elongation, stiffness, strength, flow and processing balance rather than describing every changed property as better.
