A practical evidence-based framework for selecting an impact modifier for PC/ABS without turning one laboratory result into a universal grade recommendation.
There is no single best impact modifier for every PC/ABS formulation. For a controlled first screen, RC-701, RC-721 and RC-732 have application data in the same PC/ABS formulation. RC-756 is also a candidate for evaluation where low-temperature performance is important, but its published evidence uses a separate PC formulation and must not be directly ranked in the same table.
The best grade is the one that meets the customer’s complete approval plan at a workable addition level and processing window. Begin with the PC/ABS resin grade and ratio, recycled content if any, target test method, test temperature, specimen thickness, molding history and finished-part failure mode. A housing that cracks during a cold drop test presents a different selection problem from a thin-wall part that must preserve flow, heat resistance, appearance or flame performance.
Do not reduce the decision to the highest impact number. Impact modification can change tensile, elongation, flexural properties, heat response, melt flow, color, surface and dimensional behavior. The correct screen keeps those acceptance criteria visible beside toughness. If the formulation contains flame retardants, glass fiber, pigments, recycled resin or other additives, evaluate the candidate in that complete system rather than transferring results from a neat laboratory blend.
RC-701, RC-721 and RC-732 are published with controlled PC/ABS application data using the same source formulation: PC / ABS / modifier / additive / additive = 85 / 10 / 4.5 / 0.3 / 0.2. This makes the dataset useful for a first comparison within its stated scope. It does not prove that the ranking will remain the same in another PC/ABS grade, another PC-to-ABS ratio, a flame-retardant compound, a recycled feedstock or a production part.
RC-756 uses a silicone-rubber-core design and is positioned for low-temperature impact and hydrolysis-resistance-focused evaluation. Its controlled public data are not inserted into the RC-701 / RC-721 / RC-732 PC/ABS comparison because the formulation differs. Treat RC-756 as a separate candidate path: request the current TDS, define the intended exposure and run it beside the incumbent and unmodified control in the buyer’s actual compound.
A familiar reference grade can help define the evaluation context, but a similar name, chemistry label or TDS range does not establish interchangeability. RC-721 is positioned as a comparable grade for evaluation against Kaneka M-721; it is not described as identical. Review the product specification, batch evidence, exact test formulation, available TDS and sample identity, then validate the finished compound and part under the customer’s own conditions.
Commercial review comes after the technical screen. Compare the approved grade, packaging, MOQ, sample terms, lead time, change-control expectations, lot traceability and destination-specific quotation. Public price ranges are indicative references only. Final FOB or CIF terms require manual confirmation for the quantity, destination, freight and insurance inputs. The lowest initial price is not the best choice if the material requires a higher addition level, narrows processing latitude or increases qualification risk.
Shortlist RC-701, RC-721 and RC-732 when the same-formulation PC/ABS dataset matches the intended first-screen question. Include RC-756 as a separate evaluation route where its low-temperature or hydrolysis-resistance positioning is relevant. Approve only the grade and addition level that meet the documented impact, flow, heat, appearance, processing and finished-part criteria in repeated trials. If the buyer’s formulation differs materially from the published evidence, label the result as customer validation rather than extending the public dataset beyond its scope.

Evidence scope: Application and comparative results are formulation-specific and are not guaranteed product specifications. Final grade selection and dosage must be validated in the customer's resin, formulation and processing conditions.
RC-701, RC-721 and RC-732 have controlled same-formulation PC/ABS application data. RC-756 is a separate candidate path because its published controlled data use a different formulation.
No. Selection must also protect flow, heat response, tensile and flexural properties, appearance, processing stability and the finished-part approval criteria.
No. Published controlled data can support candidate selection, but the buyer must validate dosage and performance in the actual recycled feedstock.
No. Displayed ranges are indicative and reference only. Final price requires manual confirmation for the exact grade, quantity and delivery basis.
